Sustainability

Specialist housing for older people is proven to be more environmentally friendly than traditional housing.  For example, 51% of our residents said their heating bills were noticeably less than when compared with their previous property.

We help to achieve this by constructing sustainable homes.  All of our schemes have high standards of insulation and energy efficient features such as cookers and lighting.  We work hard to reduce carbon emissions, and all of our developments will be zero carbon from 2016.

Our sites are also usually on previously development land, helping to preserve green field and undeveloped areas.

Car parking and transport

Our schemes help to minimise traffic.  We select our sites due to their location, which is usually close to towns, local shops, facilities and transport links.  This means that our residents have a reduced reliance on their own cars and a smaller ‘carbon footprint’.  The few residents who do own a car tend not to use it in peak hours, nor on a day-to-day basis.

Due in part to the location of our developments and the age of our customers, residents tend not to be car owners.  As a result, the number of car parking spaces in our schemes is lower than in traditional housing and reflects the parking demand experienced by our residents.  Many who do own a car tend to relinquish ownership once they have settled into the development.

Considerate construction

We manage every aspect of the construction process and we look to ensure that our activities have regard to site neighbours and the general public.

Our staff are guided by our own Considerate Construction Policy that seeks to minimise the impact of building work – hoardings are properly maintained, deliveries are at reasonable hours, noise is controlled and free phone numbers are displayed should site neighbours have any queries.
