Retirement plans for site in Harleston to go on display to local community

McCarthy and Stone – the UK’s leading developer and manager of retirement communities – is inviting the local community in Harleston to view and comment on its proposals to redevelop land off Mendham Lane, Harleston with new retirement accommodation.

The site was formerly home to the Apollo Club. It is well-located for housing for older people, being within walking distance of local shops and services.

Having recently acquired an interest in this site, McCarthy and Stone is drawing up plans to redevelop the site with a total of 46 Retirement Living apartments and bungalows to meet a growing need for specialist housing for older people in Harleston.

McCarthy and Stone will host a public exhibition to display the proposals to the wider public, before submitting a planning application to South Norfolk Council. This event will take place:

On: Wednesday 24th July 2019
Between: 3:00pm and 7:00pm
At: Harleston Community Leisure Facility, Wilderness Lane, Harleston, IP20 9DD

Matt Wills, Regional Managing Director of McCarthy and Stone, said:

“We look forward to speaking with members of the local community about our emerging plans for this under-utilised, brownfield site.

“The site is ideally located close to the town centre, and our plans would assist in meeting a growing need for housing for older people in Harleston.

“Our emerging proposals, which include specialist retirement apartments and bungalows, have been carefully designed to respect and complement the local context and neighbouring properties, while delivering a range of wider benefits for the town.”

McCarthy & Stone intends to submit a planning application to South Norfolk Council later this year.

Retirement Living accommodation is designed to create a safe and secure environment for homeowners to continue to live an active, independent life and can be occupied by people aged 60 or over.

McCarthy and Stone’s developments seek to promote an active lifestyle, with homeowners being encouraged to participate in activities organised by the house manager, including coffee mornings, leisure clubs and trips away – providing an excellent quality of life for all.
